The Fountain Hills
Charter School exemplifies the holistic approach to instruction
conceived from the philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori. It is our mission to
enable students to develop strategies for the acquisition of knowledge skills
and values needed to participate meaningfully in our pluralistic society. In
our small community, educational choices are very limited. The Fountain
Hills Charter School will offer a choice to the parents, students and
educators who wish to emphasize self-directed learning processes and active and
enthusiastic participation in the learning process. Consistent with this
mission, The Fountain Hills Charter School will strive to meet the
following goals:
Provide individualized learning experiences;
Ensure a high level of personal achievement;
Engage families in the education of their
children;
Prepare students for successful passage into
higher levels of education;
Actively demonstrate what we believe a true
community to be; and
Provide a trained and responsive faculty;
The Fountain Hills
Charter School provides a specially trained Montessori teacher in each
classroom. The Montessori teacher does not strive to be the focal point of the
classroom, but instead, observes the student's needs and directs each student
toward the appropriate study materials. Rather than grouping the student s in a typical graded structure of one-year age groupings, The
Fountain Hills Charter School program places children within learning
environments that span three years of academic and social development. This
type of structure creates a more natural learning community in which the
younger students witness the skill development of older classmates, and, in
turn, older students exercise leadership by assisting younger students.
Each of
the classrooms at The Fountain Hills Charter School is prepared to meet
the individual learning and social needs of each child. Specially designed and
sequenced manipulative materials help isolate skills to be learned and lead the
child through the curriculum successfully, building self-confidence along the
way. Classrooms are divided into specific learning areas that include practical
life, sensorial, language, mathematics, geography, history, science and the
arts. To foster self-motivation and self-discipline, their teacher allows
students to choose materials introduced to them.
